PhotoHunt: Orange

We had this same theme some time ago. LUCKILY I have a new photo on the same theme taken a few weeks ago.

Orange Lodge #187, Patterson's Corners

The building is now the home of the Kemptville Snowmobile Klub clubhouse. “In 1979 the KSK purchased the clubhouse where it is presently located at Pattersons Corners Road and O’Neil Road, just south of Oxford Mills. The clubhouse was formerly an Orange Lodge and with a large amount of work from volunteers in the club it has been converted into a clubhouse with two floors of meeting space and full facilities.”

It dates back to at least 1889 when it was one of a number participating in a parade in Smiths Falls commemorating the 199th Anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne.

Fall colours the same day, at the Reynold’s Cemetery, Garretton, Ontario.

There is a place in US called Orange county, isn’t it. Wonder why it is called that way.

Your tree is fantastic. It is spring, so we are having green and some latee trees without any leaves,

There are a number of counties in the US called “Orange County”, California, Florida, Indiana, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia. They tend to use the same names in various states for their counties.

The first Orange County (1683), in New York, was named after William III of Orange, as was the one in Virginia.

The one in California was named for the one in Virginia.

The one in North Carolina was named after William V of Orange.

The one in Indiana was named for the county in North Carolina by Quakers who migrated away from North Carolina because of slavery.

The ones in Texas and Florida were named for the fruit.

How the one in Vermont got its name is disputed. Although some said it was after William of Orange. However, since it was named in 1781 this is somewhat unlikely. Others say it was named after the town or Orange either in Connecticut or Massachusetts

I love the colors of the trees in the East. We have mostly evergreens although the shrubs can get quite colorful.

It was a beautiful day and just at the time of day when the sun was low enough to really highlight the leaves.

BTW! We had the first flakes of snow this evening! Gack!
