For this week’s most egregious abuse of police powers….

A Scranton, PA woman was cited for disorderly conduct after she yelled obscenities when her toilet… in her own house… overflowed. Dawn Herb was understandably upset when the toilet overflowed and started leaking down into the kitchen. She was yelling to her daughter to bring her a mop. Her neighbour, a police officer, heard her through the open window and told her to hold it down. When she continued, he called police. She could face 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $300.

Mary Catherine Roper, a lawyer with the ACLU in Philadelphia, took issue with the citation.

“You can’t prosecute somebody for swearing at a cop or a toilet,” she said.”

Nice neighbour… God forbid he should have offered to help her with her toilet instead of calling the police.
