The creative juices have really been running of late. The following are some new and ongoing pieces. The first photo is really bad but the colour is closer to the correct colour. Following are several details.

Two new paintings. These are ones I am keeping for myself. The first reminds me of one of my father’s copper enamels.

Both are 10 x 20 and the medium is acrylic.

Some recent “Bling” purchased at a “Bling Party”. A friend buys old, antique, and vintage jewelry and has parties where she sells them. Lots of fun and terribly dangerous for the likes of me!

Christmas Presents

This year, instead of the usual calendars and home-made cards, I’ve been rather Scroogie when it comes to non-family. However, I have reserved my home-mades to family. I did give the my two nieces and nephew a donation in their name to a couple of causes and organizations that they wanted to support. They will also get a small gift for under the tree. My Mom will be getting the “Roses” sign I made in my craft class.

The couples in my life will be getting paintings inspired by another projects I started in my craft class. It isn’t done yet (I don’t think). but here it is.

Here are some details from this.

My niece and her boyfriend will be getting this painting (for some reason, the shape went wonky when I photographed them so they are a little cropped).

My brother and his girlfriend are going to get this painting.

And my sister and her husband are getting this painting. Of the three, it is my favourite and the colour is slightly greener… It is difficult to get it right in my editing software.

Photo Hunt: Joy

This week’s Photo Hunt challenge is joy.

The joy comes in finding yet more photos from my childhood, in this case slides. All the photos here were taken when I was about 5 going on 6.

The first is one I don’t recall having seen before, of Mom and me outside our house in Kemptville, before she remarried. It is also a photo full of joy.

The second and third are of me with the cherry (?) tree that we planted in the back of the house. The first must be the Spring before the other. The second, taken of me in my Easter finery. I still remember that day. Someone have me Cream Soda, the pink kind, and I was excited and the soda fizzed up and came out my nose and all over my dress and sweater. I still cannot drink Cream Soda…

The last is of me on the Kemptville Creek with my new skates, probably Christmas Day. The man is our landlord, Mr. Moffatt. The scene behind us hasn’t changed in 50 years. The service station is now a repair shop but that is it.

These are those little LED lights that you get in Las Vegas. I turned out the lights and photographed them while shaking them in my hand.

Old photos

I finally found some old photos of Mom, taken about 1936-1938 or so. She’d be 12 or 14 or so.

At first she couldn’t identify the location. However, after I showed her the photo on my iPhone and could enlarge them for her, she readily identified the location as “a botanical garden in Lincolnshire”. In looking for a likely place, I found that Lincoln has an arboretum and photos seem to indicate that the pond she is kneeling at, minus the flowers, are a match with the one at the arboretum. Gone are the gardens, sadly.

This week’s Photo Hunt challenge was “Two”… Just us two, me and my dolly, Susan. I was about 4, I think.

I should mention that the front of her hair really is cut off. I overheard people say that hair grows back faster if it is cut (probably in discussions over the hideous haircut and perm you see on my head in this photo). I thought this applied to dolls’ hair, as well and clearly recall “trimming” her bangs in hopes of making it grow. I can also remember clearly the smell of her hair and the smell after it was washed it with baby shampoo., and the texture of her hair…
